According to the woman the incident escalated after a verbal and physical confrontation with Potvin prior to police arrival. It started after she  observed Potvin using drugs inside of the home. She says she threatened to leave with their child, who was present during the incident.

She told police Potvin responded by threatening her with a knife, causing several non-life threatening lacerations on her arm. He then allegedly threw her on the ground and began choking her.

The victim said Potvin also burned her several times with the end of a cigarette, punched her repeatedly and kicked her during the assault, all while threatening to harm himself.

Bedford Police officers located and arrested Potvin at 2:20 a.m. on May 3 on Quincy Drive, in Bedford. Potvin was in possession of a knife at the time of his arrest. The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for her injuries.

Potvin appeared in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on Tuesday. He was charged with criminal threatening; first-degree assault; 5 counts second-degree assault; Simple assault (domestic); convicted felon; and preventative detention.
