West student found with backpack full of stolen items, including drugs and unloaded handgun

MANCHESTER, NH  –  School officials, working with Manchester Police, discovered Sept. 22 that a high school student at Manchester High School West was in possession of  an unloaded handgun, drugs, and drug paraphernalia, and other stolen property on school grounds.

The information was released Thursday afternoon by Manchester School District.

After receiving a tip from a concerned student, Manchester SRO Det. Kevin Bernard and Principal Rick Dichard responded by interviewing the student accused of having the items. The accused student confessed to having the items and said that they were located in the student’s backpack. The handgun was checked and secured by Det. Bernard.

The entire process was managed without incident and the student was cooperative, and at no time were students or staff at risk.

The student will be facing multiple charges as well as disciplinary action from the school district. The student in question is a juvenile and therefore no further information regarding the identity of the student will be released.
