Editor’s Note: On Aug. 8 Manchester police issued a second press release announcing that this sobriety checkpoint was canceled. We’ll update you when it is rescheduled.

Manchester Police will operate a sobriety checkpoint on Aug. 8 and 9 in an effort to detect and arrest impaired drivers. The department petitioned the Superior Court to run the checkpoint, citing increasing incidences of drinking and driving in the city, according to a police department news release.

The checkpoint is part of an ongoing program administrated by the NH Highway Safety Agency and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which provides federal funding for such operations.
