MANCHESTER, NH — A physician treating inmates at Valley Street Jail for the past dozen years faces a disciplinary hearing May 4 involving several cases of alleged medical misconduct, ranging from negligence to “telemedicine” violations, for making treatment decisions without actually seeing patients.

Dr. Matthew Masewic

Dr. Matthew Masewic was put on notice April 28 by the state board of medicine (see charges below) that his license to practice medicine in NH was revoked in an emergency action based on 10 alleged violations against Masewic. The order alleges continued practice by Masewic would pose a threat to the “life, safety and health” of those he treated.

In one instance an inmate described as 30 weeks pregnant with an infection and drug withdrawal symptoms was put on a waiting list at a methadone clinic, never given antibiotics and, two weeks later, delivered a stillborn baby — one full week after telling medical staff she could no longer feel her baby move in utero.

Masewic has served as acting director of medical services at New Hampshire Hospital in Concord since 2008, an in-patient psychiatric treatment center; and as supervising physician at the Valley Street Jail in Hillsborough County since 2004. He graduated in 2001 from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Granada, and completed his residency with Dartmouth Family Practice at Concord Hospital.
