Ted Gatsas elected to another term as Manchester’s mayor.

MANCHESTER, NH – It’s official: Tuesday’s election was one for the record books, sort of, a historic turnout driven primarily by a close mayoral race, but in the end Mayor Ted Gatsas edged his opponent, Alderman Joyce Craig, by 85 votes (unofficially reported as 75 votes on election night).

Explains City Clerk Matthew Normand, “Once the hand-counted ballots and write-ins were tabulated Gatsas picked up 24 votes and Craig picked up 14 votes, moving the gap from 75 to 85.”

Craig has not yet committed to whether she will call for a recount. She has until Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. to do so, said Normand.

Official election results are now posted on the city’s election page (although in an effort to make your life easier, we’ve uploaded them here for you, posted below).

According to City Clerk Matthew Normand, a total of 20,198 votes were cast during the Nov. 3 non-partisan Municipal General Election, historically the most votes cast in a municipal election in 14 years.  This total represents a 36.7 percent turnout of all registered voters in the city.

Mayor Ted Gatsas edged opponent, Alderman Joyce Craig, by 85 votes (unofficially reported as 75 votes on election night). Craig has not yet committed to whether she will call for a recount. She has until Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. to do so, said Normand.

Election ballots also featured a proposed city charter amendment question, asking whether to remove the position of Welfare Commissioner from the election process effective January 2, 2018 and make it an office appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the aldermen.  The charter amendment passed by 846 votes – 9,577 yes to 8,731 no.

Inauguration Day for incoming elected officials will be January 5, 2016.

The next election for Manchester voters, the Presidential Primary, will be held in early 2016.
