MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Monarchs may be leaving the Queen City and announcing a move, the Union Leader reports.

Team Executive VP Matt Welch said a press conference is scheduled in early February to address the “immediate future” of the team, but added that a potential move to California by the Los Angeles Kings was not unexpected.

“We have known for quite a while this could potentially happen,” Welch said last week.

He added that the city would not be left without a hockey team – the Ontario Reign of the East Coast Hockey League, also owned by the Kings, could make the move to Manchester to play home games at the Verizon next fall.

Welch said the entire Monarchs staff  has been notified that confirmation of a move for next season could coScreen Shot 2015-01-26 at 8.44.26 AMme as soon as Jan. 25.

In a report published Jan. 26 in the Canadian publication The Telegram, it appears the move is official, detailing the Manchester Monarchs move to Ontario, Calif., and the possibility of the ECHL Ontario Reign to Manchester.
