Man faces felony charges for stealing 3 kids’ bikes, heroin possession

A city man is charged with allegedly stealing three kids’ bikes and being in possession of heroin.

At about 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 24 Officers Rob Megowen and Andrew Choi were patrolling city’s West Side when they saw a man carrying three kids’ bikes.

They stopped the man, identified as Johnny C. Almonte, 34, of Manchester, why he was carrying the bikes.

After Officer Choi pulled over, he observed Almonte drop the three bicycles and walk between two parked vehicles on Kelley Street. Officer Choi also noticed that he dropped something underneath one of the parked vehicles.

Police retrieved the item,  a cigarette carton, which contained 1.8 ounces of heroin, with an estimated street value of about $5,000, police said.

Almonte was subsequently charged with possession with intent to Distribute a controlled drug, a felony; theft of lost/mislaid property; and falsifying physical evidence, also a felony.
