MANCHESTER, NH – Police arrested Mithat Mahmutovic, 27, of Manchester, after he was charged with stealing a cooler from inside a parked police cruiser on Saturday.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Sept. 24 Officer Michael Abruzese was working in a marked police cruiser when he parked outside of USA Chicken, 990 Elm St. Officer Abruzese was conducting a business check, so he parked his police cruiser on Mechanic Street and entered the business.

Sgt. Al Aldenberg exited his police vehicle to conduct a business check at USA Chicken. He was standing on the sidewalk in front of the business when he observed a man, later identified as Mahmutovic, standing close to the passenger side door of Officer Abruzese’s police vehicle. He continued to walk toward the cruiser and noticed the passenger door was slightly ajar. He also noted Mahmutovic had abruptly turned and walked away while carrying a large blue cooler.

Sgt. Aldenberg ordered Mahmutovic to stop, which he did after placing the cooler on the ground. He identified himself to police. Officer Abruzese exited the store and confirmed the cooler was in fact on the passenger side of his cruiser when he entered the business.

Mahmutovic was charged with theft from a motor vehicle and taken into custody. He is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on October 28, 2016.
