MANCHESTER, NH – Daniel Mercier, 32, of Goffstown, is charged with possession of a controlled drug after police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car in a hotel parking lot.

On Jan. 17 Manchester Police Officer Robert Megowen was conducting a business check at La Quinta Inn and Suites, 21 Front St., at 11:50 p.m. when he noticed a motor vehicle with a man slumped over the wheel. The Acura Integra was backed into a parking spot with its parking lights on, so Officer Megowen knocked on the window and woke the driver, later identified as Mercier.

Officer Megowen spoke with Mercier who appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic. The officer noticed a bag on the floor board of the driver’s seat as he spoke with Mercier. Inside the vehicle police located needles, cotton, a spoon and two loaded syringes. The liquid tested presumptive positive for heroin, so Mercier was taken into custody without incident.

He was charged with possession of a controlled drug and released on $2,500 personal recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on February 24, 2016.
