MANCHESTER, NH — If you are feeling pretty good about filling your gas tank right now, that’s because we’re seeing prices continue to go down at the pump. According to GasBuddy.com, the state average right now is $1.713, still higher than the U.S. average of $1.697, but 44 cents cheaper than it was this time last year.

The price of $1.713 matches a low price from January of 2009.

However, the good times are going to unfortunately come to an end shortly, says Jeffrey Pelton, Northeast Analyst for GasBuddy.com.

“The low cost of crude is causing several refiners to cut their production runs which will impact the supply and slow this descent,” says Pelton. “Two other things that are rearing their heads are refinery maintenance, which is set to begin in the next 2-3 weeks, and the introduction of summer spec gasoline to the marketplace which involves a slight increase in cost.”

Pelton says these factors will stall the price decline we have been enjoying at the pump and the expectation is that in March and April, prices will start rising anywhere from 15-30 cents, depending upon what part of the country you live in.
