Fisher Cats Fall to Altoona, 11-3

MANCHESTER, NH – K. C. Hobson doubled in a run and Matt Newman and Shane Opitz each had two hits, but Altoona snapped a three-game losing streak with an 11-3 win over New Hampshire on Sunday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The Fisher Cats (22-21) had won the first two games of the series, but couldn’t muster enough offense against Curve starter Angel Sanchez (4-1). Sanchez allowed two runs on six hits over eight innings.   He walked one and struck out four.

New Hampshire scored its first run in the bottom of the third inning. Opitz reached on a fielders choice, moved to third on a double by Ian Parmley, and scored on a groundout by Ronald Torreyes.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Fisher Cats scored a run with two outs.   Newman singled and scored on the double by Hobson.

The Fisher Cats also scored in the bottom of the ninth. Andy Fermin doubled, scoring on a single by Opitz.

The Curve (24-17), leaders in the Eastern League’s Western Division, took control of the game early. They scored a run in the second and added four runs in both the top of the third and fourth innings, chasing New Hampshire starter Casey Lawrence (3-5).

Josh Bell went 4-for-5, driving in four runs. He picked up his first two RBI with a single in the third, added an RBI single in the fourth and plated another run in the ninth to pace Altoona.
