NASHUA, NH — A Nashua woman slammed her car into a New Hampshire State Police cruiser parked on Everett Turnpike Saturday while a Trooper assisted another driver.

Trooper Mark Dore of the New Hampshire State Police stopped to assist Rachel Lessard, 47, of Nashua on the Everett Turnpike north, just prior to the exit 5 A off-ramp when her 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran out of gas around 10 a.m. Dore parked his vehicle behind Lessard’s, activated his emergency lights and assisted with pouring fuel into Lessard’s vehicle.

pic-2As Dore and Lessard worked on the vehicle, Carolyn Mulrooney, 79, of Nashua, drove her 2011 Toyota Avalon into the rear end of the cruiser, pushing it forward into the back of the Jeep. Neither Dore nor Lessard were injured in the crash.  Mulrooney was transported to Saint Joseph’s Hospital and treated for minor injuries. She was also cited for the Move Over Law – Motorist Duties When Approaching Highway Emergencies.

Motorist should be reminded that when they are approaching highway emergencies, or incidents involving a fire, collision, disaster, or other emergency resulting in partial or complete blockage of a highway, or where a Police Officer is conducting a traffic stop, they should maintain a reduced speed, obey the directions of any authorized person directing traffic, vacate as soon as possible any lane wholly or partially blocked, and give a wide berth, without endangering oncoming traffic.
