NH Senate sig

On Tuesday the New Hampshire Health Protection Act, known as Medicaid expansion, comes before the Senate Finance Committee. The public session will start at 1 p.m.  followed by an executive session. On Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Goffstown Town Hall, Room 106, I will hold a public session on the bill with the Associate Commissioner of Health and Human Services. The purpose of these sessions is to answer any questions the public may have about this legislation.

On Thursday the full Senate will vote on the bill. Also on Thursday all Senate bills passed will go to the House. This is known as Crossover Day. A vote on expanded gaming will take place and the future of a proposal that has been around the legislature for almost 20 years will come up for what could be the last time.

This has been a very interesting year for New Hampshire. The drug problems have become pervasive and the death toll continues to climb. It is an everyday occurrence that a death is reported from a drug overdose. This is a problem that is not going away and must be dealt with head on. We have some legislation that must pass if we are to meet the needs of the public.

As we celebrate St. Patrick’s week in New Hampshire, we must commit to passing legislation that our state needs now. Look for this week to be a key to these votes coming from our legislature.
