“A message to the Manchester community from Chief Willard:

When the producers of the show COPS approached the police department to film episodes profiling the work of MPD officers, I agreed to it because I am immensely proud of the officers of the Manchester Police Department. Their courage, bravery and compassion is displayed every shift, everyday. I am proud of how professional they perform their jobs. MPD officers are the epitome of true American law enforcement, so to showcase them was my intent.

However, I have since heard from many in the community, both residents and businesses, who have expressed concern that the show would have a negative impact on the city’s image, which is the very last thing I would want. In light of the expressed concerns, and my respect for the City of Manchester, I have discontinued any filming and MPD will not be a featured department for their show.

I regret to have caused any undue anxiety.
