MANCHESTER, NH – Taylor Merrill, 18, of Manchester, was arrested by police for possession of heroin March 11 after an unrelated 911-call led police to to find the woman with drugs in her lap.

Officer Derek Cataldo was dispatched to a 911 hang-up call at 185 Maple St. just after 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival he noticed a woman seated in a parked car in front of 183 Maple St. Officer Cataldo checked on the woman to make sure she had not called for help.

Officer Cataldo immediately noticed a paper towel on the woman’s lap. Inside the paper towel was a piece of aluminum foil, a straw, a lighter and a small plastic bag. It appeared to Officer Cataldo that the woman was about to ingest an illegal drug, so he ordered her out of the vehicle. Upon doing so he gathered the contents from the seat of the car and located a quantity of heroin. He seized .43 grams of heroin and placed Merrill into custody.

She was charged with possession of a controlled drug (heroin) and appeared in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on March 12. The 911 call for service was unrelated and was determined to be accidental.
