MANCHESTER, NH — A Nashua man was arrested in connection with a stabbing at a downtown night club early Saturday morning.

At approximately 1:20 a.m. on Sept. 19 Manchester Police were in the area of 20 Old Granite Street, dispatched to an unrelated call. As Officers were about to clear, their attention was drawn to the area of Club Manchvegas, located at 50 Old Granite St. Officers were told that there was a fight going on and responded to the area.

The fight occurred on the street between two clubs located on that city block. The responding Officers came upon a subject who was a victim of multiple stab wounds and began rendering first aid to the victim. He was later identified as Jeffrey Atkins, 32, of Saugus, Mass.

The fight that led up to the stabbing involved several people, police said, some of which all knew one another. The victim was transported to the Elliot Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and based on witness statements a suspect was located and taking into custody. He was identified by police as Shane Rodney Velez, 25, of Nashua. He was charged with first-degree assault and falsifying physical evidence. He will appear in the 9th Circuit District Court-Manchester on September 21, 2015.

This appears to be an isolated incident and the public is not at risk, police said.

The investigation remains open. Anyone with further information is urged to come forward and contact the Detective Division at 792-5500. You can also contact Manchester Police Crimeline at 624-4040 and provide an anonymous tip.
